AIMS AND SCOPE
In response to the growth of manufacturing engineering in aerospace, mechanical and automotive engineering industries throughout the world, the International Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology will serve as a forum for publication of original papers in the broad areas of manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems and production.
The reason for this Journal
Among all the fields of engineering, manufacturing engineering is growing at the fastest rate. At the same time, it is the most diverse field in engineering. Looking at the journals and magazines in the engineering field, we find that manufacturing engineering is the field, with the largest number of magazines in the world but that is not the same with the journals.
The explanation for this is that for many years, manufacturing engineering has been more an art than a science. This remains true today for some manufacturing processes, yet progress in science and technology has raised manufacturing to a high level science. Meanwhile, many of the results of research in manufacturing engineering are not published because of confidentiality and there is a great need for more publications in this field.
A glance at the title of this new Journal reveals that the mission of the publication is to put science and production together. An additional aim of this journal is to have a short review process and publishing time for all papers.
For a journal to be successful, it must be useful to a large audience. To help academia, the journal must contain high level scientific papers that will help research and development. To serve industry it must contain papers with information that can be applied to the production system of companies.
All these papers may be useful enough to improve manufacturing processes or products. Considering all these points, The International Journal for Manufacturing Science and Technology will accept two types of papers: Research and Technical.
It is not necessary to point the difference between them. I would also like to publish in every issue one or two review papers. These papers will present the direction of development for the field of manufacturing for a country, for a continent or for the world. From issue to issue, you will be able to see the directions for manufacturing research and development in different countries, for example Japan, United States, Germany and European community.
The journal will also contain a calendar of events in the field of manufacturing engineering, as well as a book review page for new books in manufacturing. Of course, this is a beginning and any suggestions and proposals are welcome. Do not hesitate to write or contact me.
We would like to have you not only as one of our readers but also as one of our contributors.
